NO FILTER VS FILTER. Remember that a lot of pictures you see of celebs/other people are not real! Body confidence comes from within. Everyone has little marks and things they don’t like. It’s what makes you human. Love yourself and your flaws. That’s what makes you ‘you’.
I understand that it can be hard to love yourself, especially with the growing pressures of social media, advertising and the beauty industry encouraging you to be ‘filter perfect’... but I want you to know that it’s not impossible to feel good about yourself!
You CAN and you WILL change your life for the better. You can be confident and you can look in the mirror with a positive mindset and walk around with your head held high. I promise you.
Throughout my blog posts, we will discuss and explore confidence and self-esteem and how we can go on a journey to loving ourselves. But let’s start at the beginning .
The first step to growing your body confidence and beginning to feel good about yourself, is to take a look at the relationship that you have with yourself as a whole. Confidence and Self-Esteem is such a broad subject, but to begin to love what’s on the outside, you need to take a look within.
What kind of language do you use when you look in the mirror? Do you automatically go to the negatives rather than the positives? If so, this is a subconscious decision that you’re making due to the beliefs that you have formed about yourself from a child. It becomes a natural thing to put yourself down because of the habits that you’ve formed. SO.. it’s about reprogramming your subconscious mind slowly but surely.
These negative thoughts won’t just disappear straight away. It takes consistency and practice to notice the negative thoughts that you are having and actively change them into a positive one. For example, when you look in the mirror and think to yourself ‘I look so fat/ugly today’, you can actively change that thought to ‘I feel good about myself today and I am thankful that I have a body to take care of. I am making changes to my body to better my health and I am proud of myself for this. I have pretty eyes when I smile.’
Actively changing your thoughts and relationship with yourself is the first and most important step to building your body confidence.
Another thought that can play a big part in feeling insecure, is worrying about what other people think of you. Focusing on other peoples opinions and assuming that they are going to think negatively will automatically make you look at yourself more negatively. Past relationships and life experiences are usually the cause of you worrying about this. For example, if you were bullied or have been around somebody that has made you feel negatively about yourself. Another example can be the beauty industry/media and how it portrays a person should look.
Our beliefs are formed throughout the years by our external experiences and influences. The good thing about this, is that we are able to change them. After all, we are the ones that formed them in the first place! It just takes some practice. So don’t be too hard on yourself if you find yourself falling back into a negative mindset. Just don’t give up on changing them thoughts and keep going!
Try not to negatively judge other people either. This comes from the ‘egotistical’ mindset and does not serve you. It will only hold you back from being able to go on the journey of loving yourself fully.
Ultimately, it doesn’t matter what anybody says to you or thinks about you. The only thing that matters is how you think about yourself.
FIRST EXCERCISE TO COMPLETE:
- Write down the negative beliefs that you have about yourself.
- Next to each belief, write down why you think that you may have formed this belief.
- Think about how you can change this belief by rewriting it and changing it into a positive one.
- Repeat these positive alternatives to yourself every day to try to retrain the subconscious mind to start believing them.
Step 4 is commonly known as creating positive affirmations to help retrain your brains subconscious beliefs.
The fact that you are even looking at this post is brilliant, because it means that you are committed to changing your mindset so you can start to love your body and who you are. This is the first step.
I’m not going to bombard you with information to start.. so for now, get practising with the exercise above and repeat it as many times as you need to. Repetition is key for changing them deep embedded negative beliefs.
Let me know how you get on with this exercise and i’m so proud of you for starting. This amazing journey is only just the beginning for you.
You will be body confident and you will be totally in love with yourself, regardless of what others think (positive or negative).
Hello you beautiful people.
For those of you who don’t know me, my name is Starr and I’m 25 years old.
↑ Find above a standard head tilt laughing picture of me because it would be rude not to.
Anyway.. I’ve been writing and aiming to inspire people for as long as I can remember. I’ve always had a notebook, website and account with lots of advice, videos and anything else I feel like creating. Basically, helping other people feel good makes me feel good.
I started off with a blog website called ‘Never Alone’ and it really helped me growing from a young girl to my mid 20’s but now I feel that I want to create something slightly more mature and goal based. I want this website to be about you just as much as it is about me. We’re all in this together right? And yes. That was a high school musical throwback. No judgement here.
I’m in the process of finishing my life coaching diploma which is going to allow me to provide advice in more depth and understanding.
I’ve also jumped on the podcast bandwagon, so that’s a lot of fun! I love listening to different podcasts, so it just made sense for me to create my own. Have a little listen if you fancy it! I’ll be talking about all different kinds of things. Here’s the link: https://endless-empowerment.com/podcast/
Endless empowerment is all about being feeling exactly that. Endlessly empowered! I want you to feel strong, powerful, courageous and live a life that you love by being brave enough to make the decisions to take control of your life.
I’m here for you every step of the way. I want this to be a space that you come to and feel safe and accepted with no judgement.
I’m so excited to go on this journey with you all and I can’t wait for what is to come.
Lots of love.
